A roundup of gaming and entertainment developments for October 5, 2026, with summaries, links, and commentary.

I. Studios and Releases

1. Jagex Pulls the RuneScape 3 Dragon Slayer 2 Trailer and Says It Will Investigate Generative AI (Live Ops)

Summary:

Kotaku and PC Gamer reported on October 5 that Jagex removed the RuneScape 3 Dragon Slayer 2 trailer shown at RuneFest over the weekend from official channels. Social media manager Alex Sween wrote on Reddit that an external partner produced the trailer and had explicitly confirmed generative AI would not be used. After issues including a six-fingered hand appeared, the studio apologized and said it was investigating urgently. Jagex restated that it does not use generative AI to create its games, artwork, or creative assets, and that it will not knowingly allow partners to use it. This is the second such partner dispute in quick succession, after an Old School RuneScape T-shirt made with 100 Thieves. The studio said it will overhaul review processes after RuneFest and commission community creators to retell Dragon Slayer II.

Commentary:

The public steps are a takedown, an apology, and a review overhaul, while the quest remains and a replacement trailer is not up yet.

2. NC's AION 2 Opens Worldwide for Free on Steam and PURPLE (New Game)

Summary:

An NC press release carried by Games Press says that on October 5, 2026, AION 2 opened to a global audience for free on Steam PC and NC's own platform, PURPLE. During early access on September 30, the game reached number one on Steam's global top-seller chart in more than 10 regions. The release says the game uses Unreal Engine 5, that the world is about 36 times the size of the original, and that players can choose eight classes and more than 200 customization options, in a story set 200 years after the original conflict. Servers are in North America, South America, Europe, and Asia (Japan). Interface languages include English, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Japanese, Korean, and Russian. The ESRB rating is T and the PEGI rating is 16. Inven Global confirmed the same day that full launch is October 5, after early access began on September 30.

Commentary:

What opened today is the global full release; the chart rank is from early access four days ago, and the company has not given a player count for today.

3. Nexon and Chernin Will Adapt ARC Raiders and The Finals for Film and TV (Adaptation)

Summary:

GamesBeat and Polygon reported on October 5 that Chernin Entertainment, the scripted label of The North Road Company, will be lead producer on film and television adaptations of Embark Studios' ARC Raiders and The Finals, both owned by Nexon. Chernin was chosen from a competitive field. No format, release window, or premiere date has been announced. Embark CEO Patrick Söderlund said the creative teams will work together to extend both properties into new formats. GamesBeat, citing the announcement, said that since ARC Raiders launched in October 2025 it has recorded 250,000 concurrent Steam players on day one, more than 700,000 concurrent players across platforms within two weeks, and more than 16 million copies sold worldwide, with the Frozen Trail update set for October 8. The Finals has registered more than 30 million players in three years, and its next season is set for October 20.

Commentary:

The public materials stop at a lead producer and two statements; the sales figures are historical numbers from the announcement, with no slate or release date attached.

4. Overwatch Season 5 Starts Tomorrow with Support Hero Doctrine and a Sombra Role Change (Season)

Summary:

On October 5, Blizzard detailed Overwatch Season 5 of Reign of Talon, titled A Grim Doctrine, which begins October 6. New support hero Doctrine escapes the prison at Grímsvötn, in an Icelandic volcanic fissure, in a story tied to Doomfist. The season adds the first new escort map in years, set in that prison. Sombra moves from Damage to Support. The limited mode Mystery Madness: Graveyard Games runs from October 6 through November 2. The Overwatch x Shadow Monarch collaboration, marked on the official page as Solo Leveling Animation Partners, runs from October 6 through October 26. Revised battle passes from Seasons 1 through 15 return as Unvaulted Passes, and existing progress carries forward. Those passes exclude coins, XP boosts, Mythic Prisms, prestige titles, and mythic skins.

Commentary:

The season note puts the new hero, the role change, the new map, and two limited events on tomorrow's launch list.

5. Japanese Outlet Publishes a Defiant Interview on the War Setting and Japanese Localization (New Game)

Summary:

GameSpark published an email interview with producer Kong YuHeng at 12:00 on October 5, conducted around gamescom 2026. He described The Defiant as a first-person narrative shooter set in China in the 1930s and 1940s. Beyond larger frontal battles, it will include stealth, smaller engagements, and fights in different environments. On Japanese localization, he said rigor and accuracy come first: historical and military terms will be checked against sources and specialist materials, and unnatural literal translation will be avoided. GameSpark says the game is planned for Steam. IT Home added the same day that Hangzhou Haotang Technology is developing it, 4Divinity is publishing it, it uses Unreal Engine 5, and it is planned for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, with no release date. IT Home also said the Steam page lists 14 languages, including Chinese and Japanese.

Commentary:

What is new today is the producer's account of the setting, stealth, and terminology; the release date is still blank.

II. Regulation

6. More Than 480,000 Back Brazil's Betting Ban in a Senate Consultation, and Licensed Sites Go Offline Tomorrow (Regulation)

Summary:

European Gaming reported on October 5 that, by 07:10 that day, the Senate e-Cidadania portal showed 481,203 votes for Provisional Measure No. 1.394 and 80,727 against, for 561,930 votes in total. The outlet calculated support at about 85.6% from those portal figures. The consultation does not bind senators. The measure Lula signed on September 25 bans the operation, offer, intermediation, and advertising of fixed-odds betting, covering sports betting, online casino games, and foreign operators serving players in Brazil. Under the government's timetable, licensed operators must take sites and apps offline from October 6. All licences end on October 25, with no refund of fees and no compensation. The National Association of Games and Lotteries and the Brazilian Institute for Responsible Gaming asked the Supreme Federal Court on September 28 to suspend the measure. On October 2, Justice Luiz Fux gave the Attorney General's Office 72 hours to respond. No ruling had been published when the article was written. In the October 4 first round, Flávio Bolsonaro took 47.04% and Lula 45.15%. The runoff is on October 25.

Commentary:

The consultation tally and the shutdown date are on the record, and the Supreme Federal Court has not yet ruled on the request to suspend the measure.

7. Philippine NBI Examines Whether Zamboanga POGO Sites Involved Officials and a Troll Farm (Regulation)

Summary:

Philstar reported on October 5 that National Bureau of Investigation director Melvin Matibag told dzRH the bureau has established that the sites raided on October 2 in Siay and Alicia, Zamboanga Sibugay, were used for illegal offshore gaming and love scams. The NBI is examining whether government officials were involved and whether the facilities were used as troll farms. He said investigators recovered about 3,000 to 4,000 cellphones, SIM cards, IMSI catchers, and equipment that could send mass texts. The bureau has a cyber warrant and will forensically examine the devices. The Bureau of Immigration earlier said the two operations apprehended 244 foreign nationals and called them the largest POGO crackdown of 2026. Daily Tribune reported the same day that the NBI will subpoena local officials and seek documents that allowed the facilities to be built and to operate.

Commentary:

The new lines of inquiry are officials and a possible troll farm; the phone count is still the director's range, and the forensic results are not out.

8. A Poipet Raid in Cambodia Detains 587 People, and the Interior Ministry Calls It Online Gambling (Regulation)

Summary:

The Phnom Penh Post reported on October 5 that National Police said an October 4 raid on a 30-story building in Samaki Meanchey village, O'Chrov commune, Poipet, Banteay Meanchey province, detained 587 people. Of those, 518 were Indonesian, including 76 women; 18 were Thai, including six women; and 51 were Cambodian, including 21 women. A senior officer said a Thai national is believed to be the mastermind, and interrogation is ongoing. Interior Ministry spokesperson Touch Sokhak described the Poipet case as online betting and said the government is moving to eradicate all online betting. The same report said a separate October 3 operation in Sihanoukville detained 44 Chinese, Taiwanese, and Cambodian people, with 40 desktop computers, 10 laptops, and 26 mobile phones inside a building of 320 rooms that has been sealed. The paper corrected an earlier description that had called the Poipet site a scam compound.

Links:

Commentary:

The public figures are one building, 587 people, and a nationality breakdown; the equipment list and the alleged mastermind remain at "large quantities" and "believed."

9. Alberta Says Enforcement Against Unlicensed Gambling Sites Begins After October 13 (Regulation)

Summary:

SiGMA reported on October 5 that Alberta Minister of Service Alberta and Red Tape Reduction Dale Nally said at G2E in Las Vegas that, after the transition period ends on October 13, the province will use available enforcement tools against unlicensed operators that keep serving players in Alberta. Measures under consideration include cease-and-desist letters and action against payment processors that handle transactions for unlicensed operators. App stores and social media companies could also be used to limit access to unlicensed products. Nally said the number of licensed sites is expected to rise from about 35 to about 60 by the deadline. Provincial figures showed 31 regulated sites operating as of mid-September. The regulated iGaming market opened on July 13. SiGMA said the remarks were reported by RG.org from the G2E appearance.

Commentary:

The minister gave a deadline and a list of tools under consideration; a complete enforcement plan has not been published.

III. Esports and Regional Launches

10. FURIA Sweep LOUD 3-0 and Take the Last Worlds 2026 Ticket (Esports)

Summary:

EarlyGame reported on October 5 that FURIA swept LOUD 3-0 in the lower-bracket final of the CBLOL playoffs, reached the grand final against LØS, and thereby locked a place at Worlds 2026. Brazil has two slots this year. The grand-final winner enters the Swiss Stage directly, and the runner-up goes to Play-In. The grand final is on October 10. The report says the Swiss Stage begins on October 23 in Allen, Texas. Only one team advances from Play-In, and Brazil's second seed will face the third seeds from the LEC, LCS, and LCP. FURIA beat LØS 3-1 in the Split 1 final.

Links:

Commentary:

The ticket is settled; the October 10 final decides direct Swiss entry or a Play-In path.

11. Team Liquid Beat LYON 3-1 to Win the LCS Summer Title (Esports)

Summary:

Insider Gaming reported on October 5 that Team Liquid beat LYON 3-1 in the LCS 2026 Summer grand final. LYON had won the Lock-In and Spring titles this season. The official LCS account congratulated Brandon "Josedeodo" Villegas as Finals MVP the same day. He played Lee Sin, Qiyana, and Wukong in the series. LYON had already lost 3-1 to Cloud9 in the upper bracket before falling in the final. Liquid head coach Jake "Spawn" Tiberi turned to Worlds afterward and called the win his third title as Liquid's coach. The report also said the title is Jo "Corejj" Yong-in's sixth LCS split championship.

Commentary:

The score, the MVP, and the coach's post-match turn toward Worlds are all in the October 5 report and the official account.

12. The China Beta for World of Warcraft: "无限" Opens Tomorrow, a Wipe Test Through October 26 (Test)

Summary:

Blizzard's Chinese World of Warcraft site announced on October 5 that the China beta for the release it publishes as 《魔兽世界:“无限”》 runs from October 6 through October 26, Beijing time. The live game is set for a global launch on November 5, 2026. The test will be wiped, and characters and data will not carry into launch. Buying the 天裔史诗礼包 grants test access, which can take up to 30 minutes to appear and requires a Battle.net restart. The level cap starts at 20 and later rises to 30. Week one opens the new race 天裔, the zone 泽风岛, and the dungeons 领主大厅 (levels 13-18) and 洛丹伦废墟 (levels 15-20). A Battle.net account can log in to only one World of Warcraft sub-account at a time.

Links:

Commentary:

The notice sets the test window, the wipe, and the first week's content; access still depends on the Epic pack or an official event.
